Such a flurry of activity in springtime! Birds are coming back to Pembrokeshire to breed, flowers are creating an impressive display in the hedgerows, the sunrises are spectacular and I am getting busier! I love this time of year, the rising anticipation for the coming season and arranging tours and adventures for guests booked to visit later in the year. Seasonal businesses are reopening and offering the opportunity to reconnect… in one case this week over handmade local ice-cream! I never need much of an excuse to take a bracing walk on the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path, especially when you can pause at beautiful spots like St Non’s Chapel near St Davids. It’s dedicated to St Non, the mother of our Patron Saint – St David.  There’s a holy well nearby and the water is said to have healing powers. I met a few walkers on the path who had spotted chough and wheatears and that made me smile, I was pleased I had brought my binoculars. I lit a candle in memory of a close friend and absorbed the tranquillity of the sunny afternoon. #ilovemyjob

I have never met a food I didn’t like so I am delighted that my home town, Pembrokeshire’s county town of Haverfordwest is hosting the inaugural Haverfordwest Food Festival – Haverfoodfest this weekend. From what I’ve seen so far, I believe this will become a popular annual event.

This year 48 stalls will showcase tasty treats from around West Wales and there will be a range of demonstrations by celebrity chef Angela Gray and various local food business owners. We will be entertained by live music from a number of Pembrokeshire and Welsh acts and refreshed by an on-site licensed bar.
I anticipate that this event will show off some of our outstanding local produce from Pembrokeshire new potatoes to Welsh lamb, some ‘wickedly Welsh chocolate’ and a selection of poultry, beef, sausages, burgers, dairy produce, pasties, pies, cakes, bread, chutneys, relishes and jams and ice cream. (This list could go on… But please let there be my favourite local cheeses!)
So, if you like good food, great music and a fantastic atmosphere, then Haverfordwest is the place to be on Saturday, 9th May 2015. The event will be held in the grounds of County Hall and in the adjacent Picton Centre from 10am to 6pm.
I for one will be skipping breakfast so that I can make the most of the tasty treats, though I don’t think that I could wait to compete in the Man vs Food competition… I’ll be unable to resist sampling the local produce before that competition starts!

See you there!

Over the last few weeks a number of my visitors have asked about the new logo for Pembrokeshire Guided Tours, so I thought I’d share the story.

I’ve been guiding since 2011 and I’ve recently achieved the Wales Blue Badge qualification accredited by Visit Wales and the Wales Official Tourist Guides Association. This means that I am now qualified to guide anywhere in Wales, so it seemed like a good time to update my website.

I found a great little Welsh company, BrandNu Creative, that specialises in branding and web design and together we looked at the old site and worked out what needed improvement.

Pembrokeshire coastal splendour - looking forward to summer

The Logo

The logo design we agreed on was a perfect fit for Pembrokeshire Guided Tours. The colours were inspired by the landscapes of my native Wales. Blues represent the sea and the skies, the greens are reminders of the rural landscapes, fields and woodlands and the bright pink reminiscent of the red campions, thrift and foxgloves seen on the coast and in the hedgerows during spring and summer. The shape was inspired by map pins, with two intertwined to create a heart shape.

Awe-inspiring locations + authentic experiences = heart-warming memories map-marker
